The result is decided first with your browser’s cryptographic randomness, then the wheel spins to land on it.
A pasted spreadsheet column goes in as one name per line

- Press ‘Spin’Press ‘Spin’ in the middle of the wheel and the name under the pointer appears in large type under ‘Result’.
- Spin again without them‘Remove and spin again’ takes that name off the wheel only and spins straight away, while ‘Picked so far’ keeps the order.
- Share the result link‘Copy result link’ copies an address holding the names and the seed, and the 8-character ‘Check code’ beside it shows whether two lists match.

What it checks and discloses
Every pick starts from a fresh seed from the browser's crypto.getRandomValues(), and more than 500 automated tests, including chi-square checks over 100,000 draws, confirm that results come out even. A result link lets anyone recompute the same result.
An 8-person ladder shuffles its bottom row first, so every outcome stays near 12.5%
Rules and sources
- Seed
- Every press takes a fresh starting value (seed) from your browser’s cryptographic random generator, so one result says nothing about the next.MDN: Crypto.getRandomValues() · Checked Oct 10, 2026
- Math.random()
- Never used, because MDN says it does not provide cryptographically secure random numbers.MDN: Math.random() · Checked Oct 10, 2026
- Rebuilding a result
- The same seed always gives the same result through the xoshiro256** generator. It is not meant for cryptography, so the about page asks you not to use the site for passwords or keys.prng.di.unimi.it (David Blackman and Sebastiano Vigna) · Checked Oct 10, 2026
- Reference check
- That generator is tested digit for digit against 10 published reference outputs.Reference values in Rust’s rand_xoshiro (xoshiro256starstar.rs) · Checked Oct 10, 2026
- Shuffles and whole numbers
- Orders, teams and multi-name draws use the Fisher–Yates shuffle. For one name out of 10, a number from 0 to 15 is drawn and anything 10 or above is drawn again, so no position is favored.About Pickboard (cites Durstenfeld 1964 and Knuth)
- Ladder game
- Left alone, an 8-person, 14-level ladder sends line 1 straight down 24.8% of the time instead of 12.5%. With the bottom row shuffled, every result lands between 12.4% and 12.6%.Ladder guide · Checked Oct 10, 2026
A result link cannot show whether someone drew several times and sent only the one they liked, or changed the list before the draw.

The list now locks during a spin, and the order you type names in no longer matters
Added an 8-character list check code so two lists can be compared.
The wheel, name picker and team generator now pick the same way whatever order the list is in.
The list now locks while the wheel spins, so the result and the link always point to the same person.
Long names in the result are now always shown in full.
Pickboard first went online.
